What’s it like to be in an individual therapy session?
We strive to create a casual, home-like atmosphere, where the client knows they are not being judged, which facilitates the client being able to express their thoughts and feelings.
This, in turn, allows the therapist to ask and receive answers.
The first session is used to gather information about what you’re concerned about.
You may want to ask many questions, and we welcome them.
We strive to answer them all. Once we agree to a course of treatment, we get to work.
At the end of the first session, plans are made for the next few weeks. For additional sessions, you have control over the topics of the conversations.
When those questions are answered to your satisfaction, your therapist will bring up topics to discuss, to further evaluate and to get to the root of, and resolve, various issues.
The individual therapy experience is different for everyone.
The number of sessions for therapy to run its course varies.
When you’ve reached a satisfaction level with symptoms, the sessions can be wound down, until they are suspended, typically after 6-12 sessions. They often re-start if symptoms reappear later.
You can expect the same experience if we communicate via TeleTherapy, on a secure connection between our therapist and you.
